NBIAA Hockey North-East Regionals Preview

Moncton NB: Tonight is the start of the NBIAA Boys Hockey North-East Regionals. In Moncton, we've got some good hockey on our hands. We will preview some of the playoff matchups we will see this week.

Starting off with AAA regionals, we have the ESN Rebelles from Bathurst taking on the Mathieu-Martin Matadors from Dieppe. These two teams have had very strong seasons and have put on a show in their respective districts. For ESN, they ended the season with a 12-6-0-0 record. They are lead by Jacob Brideau who has 25 points in 18 games. For Mathieu Martin, they cap the season off with a 13-7-1-0 record. Caleb LeBlanc leads the team in points with 31 in 20 games. In league playoffs, the Matadors defeated L-J-R in 5 games. Alexis Gagnon played very well in the league playoffs with six points in 5 games. Game One will take place on Wednesday, March 12th in Beresford. Game Two is Friday, March 14th at the UNIplex in Dieppe. I predict a 2-1 series win for the Mathieu-Martin Matadors.

Moving to the AA regionals, we have the Miramichi Valley Pulamoo taking on the Tantramar Titans. Miramichi Valley ended the season with a 13-4-0-0 record and are lead by Caden Carter, who scored massive 46 points in 17 games. For Tantramar, they've had a bit of a worse season, finishing with a 8-12-1-0 record. Logan Smith leads the pack with 33 points in 19 games. Game One is tonight, Tuesday, March 11th at the Tantramar Civic Centre. Game Two is Wednesday, March 12th at the Miramichi Civic Centre. I predict a 2-0 series win for the Miramichi Valley Pulamoo.

We also have the DNA Swag Cup Final starting up this weekend, featuring the heated Moncton rivalry between the Bernice McNaughton Highlanders and the Harrison Trimble Trojans. The Highlanders finished with a 9-11-1-0 record and are lead by Draven Miller who scored 31 points in 19 games. They swept the Riverview Royals in the semi-finals. The Trojans finished with a 9-11-2-0 record and are lead by Drew Betts with 38 points in 20 games. The Trojans also had a sweep in the semi-finals, doing so against the Moncton High Purple Knights. Due to some high demand for ice time in the Moncton area, they have a bit of a weird schedule. Game One is Friday, March 14th in Petitcodiac, puck drop at 9:15pm. Game Two is Saturday, March 15th at the 8th Hussars Sports Centre in Sussex NB. Game time is at 7:15pm. I predict a 2-1 series win for the Harrison Trimble Trojans.

Lots of great hockey to check out if you are in the Moncton area, especially with the UdeM Aigles Bleus taking on the UNB Reds for Game Two of the AUS Finals tonight in Moncton. It is a best-of-3 series, with UNB taking Game One. The Moncton AAA Flyers are also in their playoffs currently as well. We can't forget the Moncton Wildcats who just clinched the Regular Season Championship on Saturday Night. The Cats play at the Avenir Centre twice this weekend. Saturday at 7pm against the Saint John Sea Dogs, as well as Sunday at 3pm against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, as they play in Moncton for the last time as the Titan before they move to Newfoundland next season.
